Hotel Saint George → Vitoshko Lale
Кратко описание

A more serious half-day route from Hotel Saint George towards the higher parts of Vitosha, with a long ascent, rocky sections and reaching the base of the Vitoshko Lale ski slope.

Ascent towards the higher parts of Vitosha

The route starts directly from Hotel Saint George and gradually enters the forested slopes above Simeonovo.

From the very first part, it becomes clear that this is a more serious hike than the short walks around the hotel. The ascent is continuous, and in some places the terrain is uneven and rocky.

These sections are exactly why we recommend sturdy hiking shoes, especially after rain, when stones and roots can be slippery.

There is no need to rush. At a steady pace, the route is pleasant and allows you to gradually gain elevation without long, overly steep sections.

Past the intermediate station of the Simeonovo lift

Along the way, the route passes by the intermediate station of the Simeonovo lift — a recognisable point in this part of the mountain and an interesting remnant of the infrastructure that once connected Simeonovo with the higher parts of Vitosha.

From here, you can already feel that you have left the lower slopes behind and are entering a significantly higher part of the mountain.

The place is also suitable for a short rest before continuing the ascent.

Severina Hut

The next characteristic point along the route is Severina Hut.

The area around the hut is a useful landmark on the way to Vitoshko Lale and a good opportunity for a short rest after the more demanding part of the ascent.

After passing the hut, the character of the route gradually changes. The trail becomes gentler and the hike continues more calmly towards the ski slope area.

To the base of the Vitoshko Lale ski slope

The final part of the route is easier compared to the previous ascent.

The forest gradually opens up and the route reaches the area at the base of the Vitoshko Lale ski slope, at approximately 1530 m above sea level.

This is the natural final point of this route and a pleasant place to rest before returning to the hotel.

For guests who want a longer hike, the area is also a good starting point towards the higher parts of Vitosha and Aleko Hut.

Who the route is suitable for

The route is suitable for:

  • people with normal to good physical preparation;
  • hikers with some mountain experience;
  • guests looking for a more serious half-day hike;
  • people who want to gain over 500 m of positive elevation;
  • lovers of forest and mountain routes.

Although the distance of 4.8 km in one direction may not seem long, the combination of elevation gain and rocky sections makes it slightly more difficult than the route to Bay Krastyo.

What you will see along the route

During the hike, you will pass through:

  • the forested slopes above Hotel Saint George;
  • rocky mountain sections;
  • the intermediate station of the Simeonovo lift;
  • Severina Hut;
  • more open sections in the higher zone of Vitosha;
  • the area at the base of the Vitoshko Lale ski slope.

Here, the main experience is once again the hike itself — the gradual transition from the lower forested parts to the higher mountain zone.

Useful tips

For this route, we recommend hiking shoes with good soles and ankle stability. In some places, the trail is rocky and ordinary city shoes are not suitable.

Bring enough water and something to eat, especially if you plan a longer rest in the Vitoshko Lale area.

The weather in the higher parts of Vitosha can change more quickly, so even during the warmer months it is a good idea to have a light outer layer.

After rain, some sections can become slippery, and in fog orientation in the higher part of the route may be more difficult.

Before setting off, check the current forecast and conditions in the mountain.

From the hotel to the heart of Vitosha

One of the greatest advantages of this route is that it starts directly from Hotel Saint George.

Without a car, transfer or going down to the districts at the foot of the mountain, you can leave the hotel on foot and reach over 1500 m above sea level in a little more than two hours.

The route to Vitoshko Lale is an excellent choice for guests who want to spend a larger part of the day in the mountain and are ready for a more serious ascent.

And after returning — a well-deserved rest and lunch or dinner in the restaurant of Hotel Saint George.
